Throngs of people head to Pier Village in Long Branch during beach season. But it’s lively here in the wintertime, too.

At Festival Plaza on Centennial Drive, there’s an outdoor ice rink where folks are welcome to practice their axel, Salchow, loop, or Lutz. It’s also a place for those who are interested inlacing up a pair of ice skates for the first time.

Flight on Ice operates the rink, where skate times can be reserved and skates can be rented. For young skaters new to the sport, there is a limited quantity of dolphin ice skating aids.

The “real ice” rink, which will be open through Feb. 26, is powered by commercial chillers; a Zamboni is regularly deployed for a smooth surface. For session times, reservations and rental information, go to flightonice.com.
